Key findings: The most important factors when purchasing NPMs were effectiveness and safety. However, personal experience was the most common method of determining effectiveness. Most respondents believed buying NPMs in pharmacies gave access to advice, but were less likely to agree that pharmacies were associated with safe and effective treatments. Around half the respondents agreed that it is wrong to sell treatments lacking scientific evidence; many also agreed that it is up to consumers to decide what they want even without scientific evidence. Individuals experiencing an ineffective NPM were less likely to trust scientific evidence of efficacy as the sole source of effectiveness information; regular prescription medicine users often agreed that scientific evidence is needed to support effectiveness. Conclusions: Consumers have conflicting views regarding the need for scientific evidence and the desire for patient autonomy in NPM purchases. This presents a challenge for pharmacists wishing to maintain professional obligations to provide evidence-based treatments to consumers.]]> Tue 11 Oct 2022 12:14:38 AEDT ]]> Consumers at the centre: interprofessional solutions for meeting mental health consumers' physical health needs https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:35663 Thu 03 Oct 2019 13:56:54 AEST ]]> Context-induced placebo effects - an investigation of contrast effects in response expectations and actual product efficacy https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:47849 Thu 02 Feb 2023 16:39:57 AEDT ]]> Studying the effects of materialism, religiosity and status consumption on subjective well-being: an Indonesian perspective https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:10376 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:08:48 AEDT ]]> Examining the impact of product placement, television advertising and print advertising on consumer attitudes and intentions: a comparison study https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:12096 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:07:37 AEDT ]]> Applying the future time perspective scale to advertising research https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:19032 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:05:27 AEDT ]]> Do social product features have value to consumers? https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:16355 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:04:57 AEDT ]]> The design dimension of citizenship https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:5998 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:43:51 AEDT ]]> Global consumer innovativeness and consumer electronic product adoption https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:28650 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:37:13 AEDT ]]> Ethnic marketing ethics https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:3721 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:20:55 AEDT ]]> Services doing the best they can: service experiences of young adults with type 1 diabetes mellitus in rural Australia https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:22186 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:16:23 AEDT ]]> Mental health nursing capability development: Perspectives of consumers and supporters https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:50940 Mon 14 Aug 2023 13:12:01 AEST ]]> 'There's just no flexibility': How space and time impact mental health consumer research https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:48277 Mon 13 Mar 2023 19:12:42 AEDT ]]> Understanding e-WOM influence using social location based services: qualitative evidence from service encounters https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:14812 Mon 02 Jul 2018 15:01:10 AEST ]]> Partnering with people with dementia and their care partners, aged care service experts, policymakers and academics: a co-design process https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:46580 Fri 25 Nov 2022 13:39:35 AEDT ]]>
